About Us
For nearly 30 years, SV2 has brought together donors in the Bay Area and beyond to power nonprofits and social enterprises working hard to improve people’s lives.
SV2’s collective of Donor Partners represents a diverse array of backgrounds. We’re executives from companies large and small. We’re nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, innovators, and lifelong learners. And we all believe in rolling up our sleeves to build a more equitable world where everyone thrives. Donor Partners at SV2 collaborate through every step of the grantmaking and investing process: identifying potential recipients, conducting rigorous due diligence, selecting organizations to receive funding, and working directly with those organizations to help them succeed.
To date, SV2 has allocated over $10.6 million to more than 228 social ventures in the form of unrestricted grants to nonprofits and investments in early-stage mission-driven companies, all of which make a meaningful impact for underserved and vulnerable communities.
Beyond-the-Dollars support brings a wealth of experience to the table.
Funding is just the beginning of what SV2 offers to nonprofits. When we make a grant to a nonprofit organization, the Grantee leader selects two Partner Champions to partner with them for the full three year-term of the grant. Partner Champions are matched with organizations based on the skills and experience most useful for their particular needs: high-level strategy, operations, executive coaching, finance, fundraising, marketing, and more.
SV2 is a community of learners.
A key pillar of our mission is helping all Donor Partners become more knowledgeable and effective givers. That’s why learning is a critical component of the SV2 experience. Through the work we do with organizations and through additional initiatives like workshops and immersive learning trips, Donor Partners learn about things like grantmaking, board service, and conducting due diligence. We also host discussions with nonprofit leaders and subject matter experts about how to tackle the challenges facing our most vulnerable neighbors. Not only does all this make SV2 better, but it also has a valuable ripple effect as Donor Partners expand the practice of giving beyond SV2.
