Jan Half
Partner Champion to The José Valdés Math Institute
Jan Half is a retired educator and nonprofit director. She participates on the education committee of SV2 and 100 Women Foundation. She is involved with Northwestern University Alumni and Synagogue activities, coordinates Book Club, plays Mah Jongg, swims daily, and spends time with her wife, Sharyn. Before retiring in 2015, Jan was Executive Director of the STEAM nonprofit MOUSE Squad which taught students tech support and other skills, so they could assist adults at schools or in the community. Prior to MOUSE Squad, Jan served as the Regional Director of the California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP), where she managed implementation of technology in several hundred schools in the Greater Silicon Valley area. Jan sold computers, software, and network services to K-12 schools in the 1990’s, and data network services to semiconductor and other companies in the 1980’s. Jan began her 40-year career as a middle school teacher in rural Illinois, and then School/Business Partnership manager with nonprofits in Illinois and California. Jan received her Bachelors in Education from Northwestern University and a Masters in Career and Adult Education from Northern Illinois University. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and enjoys going back to visit family and friends in this revitalized city!
