Through immersive trips, structured programs, and “learning by doing” alongside a values-aligned peer community, our Donor Partners expand their impact at SV2 and beyond.
A core element of SV2’s mission has always been to create a community of knowledgeable givers, not only making our own organization more effective but also helping our Partners become better givers outside of SV2. Our Immersive Learning opportunities take three main forms: peer-to-peer education in our work, special in-person and online events, and organized learning trips.
Educational workshops and discussions.
Tangible results are the most important goal of our work with nonprofits and social enterprises, but we also believe our Donor Partners should learn as much as possible along the way. We design every step of our grantmaking and impact investing processes to be collaborative, guided by experienced Donor Partners and the SV2 leadership team while allowing all Donor Partners to participate meaningfully regardless of experience level. This way, every Donor Partner has the opportunity to gain essential knowledge both from their SV2 colleagues and from the leaders we support.
Learning by doing.
Every month, we schedule informative workshops on a variety of topics, along with panel discussions featuring community leaders who are also subject matter experts. In-person events take place at our Redwood City headquarters, while others are held online. Some recent and ongoing examples include:

Organized learning trips.
There’s only so much you can learn in a meeting room. To deepen our understanding of history and the challenges of today, SV2 staff, board members, and Donor Partners have traveled to places around the US where people continue to fight for equity and justice.
- California Equity Journey – We met with leaders in the East Bay, Central Valley, and Sacramento to gain firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by Californians and discuss solutions at the local and statewide legislative levels.
- U.S. South Civil Rights Journey – This unforgettable experience took us through historic sites from New Orleans to Selma to Montgomery. Along the way, we met with community leaders, activists, and advocates for racial justice in America.
