Silicon Valley is facing an unprecedented crisis in affordable housing. The San Jose Mercury News recently reported that San Jose tops the list for the least affordable housing in the United States. In the greater San Francisco metro area, the average homeowner has to budget 45% of their paycheck for a mortgage. If a prospective buyer at the bottom third of the income ladder wanted to buy into the San Jose market, it would require more than 80 percent of their salary. And low-income renters in the Bay Area now have to spend all of their income to afford the typical apartment.
Although the challenges are large, positive changes to address them are underway. As community leaders and changemakers, we invite you to join us and learn more about the latest developments. We look forward to having you and your invited guests join us for this important discussion about the future of Silicon Valley housing.
