The community school approach is a school reform model which acknowledges that good teaching alone cannot overcome the challenges of poverty. The model combines the education elements that support student success with access to services to address student health and wellness, such as eye and dental care and mental health counseling. Â Community schools intentionally build strong connections with parents while also offering various services for families and adults such as job training and legal or housing assistance. This model depends on strong partnerships with local community based organizations which offer services and support students, parents and the greater community at or near to the school site.
Come hear a panel of education experts discuss this model and share lessons learned from their on-the-ground practitioners’ perspective.

Our final learning session in November will address workforce development and career pathways. In December, interested Partners will choose focus areas for the Spring grant round, which will run from January-May. Note that all Partners are welcome to participate in this Pathways to Opportunity year at the level they are interested and available. We encourage you to pick and choose what interests you and works for your schedule from attending all the learning sessions and participating in the grant round to joining in select learning sessions and/or grant round sessions. We will be recording (audio and video) all learning sessions and grant round sessions (audio) so that you can catch up if you miss a session. Please contact SV2 Partner leaders Alison Elliott (aselliott@kandsranch.com) or Linda Lazor (linda_lazor@yahoo.com) if you have questions or suggestions about the year.
