Jim Basile

Jim Basile joined SV2 in 2016 and has been an active participant in the Education Lightning Grant rounds. He is passionate about education issues and increasing underserved students’ access to educational opportunities. Jim also serves on the Board of Directors of SV2 Grantee Silicon Valley Urban Debate League (SVUDL), is a member of the Advisory Counsel at the University of Notre Dame, and serves on the board of LaSalle College High School.

Jim is an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis in San Francisco. He has spent twenty-six years as a trial lawyer and was founding partner and head of Kirkland’s San Francisco litigation practice from 2003 to 2015 and served for ten years on the firm’s Finance Committee. He has specialized in high-profile, complex litigation involving antitrust, securities, class actions, mergers shareholder and take-private litigation as well as contract and business litigation for a wide variety for Fortune 500 companies. Jim was named one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business by Chambers, USA and has been listed as a “Super Lawyer” in Super Lawyers magazine from 2013 to 2016.

Jim is a member of the New York, District of Columbia, and California bars and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (1986) and the Notre Dame Law School (1989) where he was Articles Editor of the Law Review.
