Why SV2 Invested in Mafix?

Published On: August 18, 2026

At SV2, we partner with early-stage companies that leverage market-based solutions to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges. We look for ventures where deep technical expertise meets a clear path to global impact. Mafix is a prime example of this synergy, offering a transformative approach to both carbon sequestration and food security.

Rapid CO2 Mineralization for a Changing Climate

The world faces a dual crisis: the urgent need for large-scale carbon removal and the increasing strain on global food security. Traditional enhanced rock weathering methods, while promising, often suffer from slow reaction kinetics and high measurement costs.

Mafix is changing that.

The company’s core innovation, Monti, is an activated silicate soil amendment that enables rapid CO₂ mineralization within a single growing season. This significantly outperforms traditional basalt or olivine weathering through faster reaction kinetics and higher measurable mineralization. By accelerating the process, Mafix reduces long-tail uncertainty and dramatically lowers the cost of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV).

From Stanford Research to Climate Action

CEO and Founder Jade Marcus is a PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University and a former McKinsey Engagement Manager in their Sustainability practice. Her work, alongside Chief Scientific Advisor Matthew Kanan (a Stanford Professor and leader in electrochemistry and carbon capture), has translated complex mineralization chemistry into a practical, scalable product.

Why Mafix Is an SV2 Fit

For SV2, Mafix stands out for its potential to deliver dual impact at a global scale:

  • Environmental Sustainability: By enabling faster carbon removal at a fraction of the current cost, Mafix offers a scalable path toward meeting global climate goals.
  • Agricultural Productivity: Monti is designed to improve both crop yield and soil health. In field trials across the U.S., EU, and Vietnam, it has shown a ~10% yield increase.

The combination of a deeply technical team, a product that addresses two critical global needs, and a clear path to commercial scale made Mafix a compelling investment for SV2. We are excited to partner with Jade as she works to accelerate carbon removal and strengthen the foundations of our global food system.
